Update! The location of the Sunday banquet has changed, please see the agenda below!

The Cardinal Flyers will return to Winter Haven, enjoying the presence of excellent aircraft and the company of our CFO family the weekend before Sun 'n Fun.

This year will be a celebration of Faye Gehring and all that she has done for CFO over the years. She may still be joining us in the future, but is selling her home in Winter Haven so will no longer be a local. Come join us in sharing our appreciation.

The event starts on Saturday evening with a reception at The Flightline Cafe (at GIF terminal). This will be updated as plans are put in place. We will be enjoying excellent food and good company, catching up with friends new and old.

The Saturday reception will be partially funded by our sponsor Powerflow. We appreciate their thoughtfulness and support. Please thank them when you see them!

The airport fly-in portion of the event kicks off on Sunday morning. The agenda includes a group review of the many dozens of Cardinals on the field. We will look for unique details, impressive paint, clever solutions and outstanding panels. The walk-around will be followed by a delicious BBQ lunch and an after-lunch discussion in the grove.

The awards banquet will be on Sunday evening, after the airport day. It will be at a familiar location: The Catering Company of Central Florida, 2090 Havendale Blvd NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881 . It is always a great time, with good food, discussion and of course the presentation of awards, including the coveted People's Choice Best Cardinal of Show.

Our Monday field trip this year will be a visit to one of Faye's favorite day trips, a winery, with a nice lunch along the way. More details to follow.

Monday evening after the day trip we expect to have a group reservation at the Outback next to the hotels for an off-the-menu dutch treat dinner.

Throughout the event there will be plenty of opportunities to ogle over Cardinals and talk with their owners in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, share tech talk and generally have good fun in the Florida sun. Read on for the detailed logistics and agenda.

Many of us will stay in Winter Haven and drive to Sun 'n Fun. Winter Haven is a great base for seeing Sun 'n Fun, with far smaller crowds, less crowded restaurants and better prices in exchange for a short drive. Ride the Winter Haven airport shuttle, keep your rental car or pair up with other CFO members and see the show with your Cardinal friends.

Join us for the Cardinal Forum on Wednesday at 10:00 in the forum building on the Sun 'n Fun grounds. Check the signs for the meeting room. The initial schedule has us in room Room 2 of the blue forum building (CFAA-02).

There will be a temporary control tower in effect at the Winter Haven Airport, starting on Monday, April 8th. That is after our event but may be in effect for your departure.

The Winter Haven Airport continues to be a great help to us in these events, so please make an effort to support them as much as possible.

The airport will be selling Sun 'n Fun access wrist bands and will have a shuttle to the SnF grounds from their terminal. Several of our folks used the shuttle in past years and reported it to be a great way to enter the grounds, avoiding the cost and walking required when parking, not to mention the mud, dust or smoke (depending on which we'll get this year). Here is a link that will show the services they are offering for Sun 'n Fun this year.

Preflight Checklist:

  • 1) Register Please register for the event so we will have food for you! The price goes up the week before the event, as our costs go up for late reservations.

  • 2) Hotel. Reserve ASAP, as the hotels are always busy, and our block will be released to public access on March 17th

CFO has reserved a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn. Our group rate will be $159. To reserve a room from the Holiday Inn block, please make your reservation using this link. You can call them at 1-863-292-2100. Ask for the Cardinal Flyers block.

We also have a block of rooms reserved at the Hampton, which shares a parking lot with the Holiday Inn. Please make your reservations for this block using this link. Their phone number is 1-863-299-9251. If you call, ask for the Cardinal Flyers block.

There is a chance that you may have access to a special corporate or other rate for either of these hotels which would be lower, feel free to give it a try.

There are limited rooms available, so you may need to extend your search to other hotels.

  • 3) Rental Car. CFO is making arrangements with Hertz to have cars available. You must reserve your car through the local office to be included as part of the CFO group. Be sure to use our CDP number for a discount: 1499515.

If you are a gold card member let them know, as it helps them have enough cars waiting. They can also help you become a gold card member for your future travel needs, this will let Hertz stage cars for you at other airports as well.

Reserve your car from Hertz at 863-298-0651 (press option 5 to talk to the office) during business hours in Florida (8:00AM-6:00PM Eastern). Rates are currently variable day by day, so the price can't be known until you make a reservation. Be sure to ask for the CFO rate using CDP number: 1499515.

If you prefer to rent from Enterprise, they are now down the street and not on the airport. To reserve with Enterprise call 863-956-1631.

  • If you have any problems making any of these reservations please let Debbie know. She stays in touch with the teams and management of these providers and can help work out (most) wrinkles.

  • 4) Be Patient, prepare your airplane, stock up on sunscreen (we can hope!) and wait until April 6 to fly to Winter Haven.

  • 5) Fly to Winter Haven on Saturday, April 6 arriving before the 6:30 social event. Watch for the parking volunteers on the east side of the main runway by the grove.

  • 6) Drive or catch a ride to the airport terminal for the evening social event which starts in the Flightline Cafe at 6:30.

  • 7) Enjoy the event! We're looking forward to seeing you there!

We especially need people to handle parking airplanes. This is a lot of fun but only for an hour or so... please sign up for an hour and help carry the load.

We also need someone to take pictures of each airplane, and hopefully a few overall shots. We've had some excellent photographers step up in the past, anyone up to the task this year?
